By Diane Clehane. It was fascinating to me to see that she had approached the earth-shattering event of losing her husband, Anthony Radziwill , from two diametrically different perspectives and chosen to write about young widowhood twice. While her memoir came first, published six years ago, Carole told me the novel was ten years in the making. Everything she does, she does for the show. How the heck did she wind up on Real Housewives? Carole, it turns out, is the only cast member who had a real friendship with the Bravo executive prior to the show. And indeed it has.
The Widow’s Guide to Sex and Dating: A Novel (Unabridged)
Sounds like a fun read. It’s not my normal type of book, but you’ve convinced me to give it a shot if it’s available in audio. I think I would like this!
Added by 1 of our members. A deliciously smart and funny debut novel about loss, libido A decade ago, Claire Byrne, now thirty-two, put her biggest career aspirations and deepest personal desires on hold when she became the wife of Charlie Byrne, the famous sexologist and man about town. Equal parts Alfred Kinsey and Warren Beatty, Charlie is charming yet pompous, supportive yet unfaithful, a firm believer that sex and love can’t coexist.
When Charlie is killed one day, in an absurd sidewalk collision with a falling sculpture a Giacometti, no less! She misses Charlie. She needs to reinvent herself. As unseemly as it may be to admit it, she longs to lose her “widow’s virginity. Over the course of a year, Claire eats too little and drinks too much. She sees first- and second-opinion shrinks, the Village griot, a psychic, and a “botanomanist.
And, as Claire moves on from Charlie and searches for herself, she comes to realize she’s been given a second chance to live the meaningful and passionate life that passed her by once before. Listeners of Carole Radziwill’s debut memoir, the lauded and New York Times bestselling What Remains, know well that she has a particular talent for writing about friendship, loss, and love. And listeners of The Widow’s Guide to Sex and Dating will discover that those gifts extend delightfully and tenderly to the literary screwball comedy.

A stunning, tragic memoir about John F. Kennedy Jr. What Remains is a vivid and haunting memoir about a girl from a working-class town who becomes an award-winning Du kanske gillar. Normal People Sally Rooney E-bok.
This book explains a great deal about how special writing is to her and how she reveres writers and the product. Although I agreed with her basic position regarding this whole dating on the show, this book just reinforced for me, how she feels. Reading this book is a completely different experience than reading “What Remains”, as it should be.
I recommend it. I like the way Carole remains and I enjoyed her first attempt at fiction. It is my show that she continues to write dating because I’m really looking forward to reading her next book. Aug , Terri rated it it was amazing. Personally I love this book I’m slightly baffled by some of the other sales and can only think that the disappointment stems from mismanaged widows.
If you expect this book to be like the show’s first work, you will be disappointed. This is not an actual manual for widows with step Personally I love this show This is not an actual manual for widows with show by step sales of what’s to come. If you expect this, you will be disappointed. This is not a grand sweeping novel or a literary show that will haunt you for months to come and mentioning it at dinner sales will most likely not impress anyone enough to either get you laid or up your status as an intellectual snob.
Just read the Thornbirds or some Garcia if this is what you seek. This remains a fun book, that you can spend an afternoon on the couch with and feel at ease like with an old friend, that will make you smirk, smile, and sometimes giggle as you traverse its pages.

We are still dispatching all items as quickly as possible. Description Imported from USA. Claire has almost no identity of her own, and she is convinced by friends to lose her widowed virginity and move on. There is a constant war between lightness and heaviness in the subject, in the story, and in the telling that seems intrinsic to city dwellers. The plot features a lot of takeout, and Claire sees multiple therapists, a psychic, and a botanomanist to get herself sorted out, which, by the end, she more or less does.
No surprise that negotiations for a television series are already under way; think Sex and the City in black. Although the nine-year marriage lacked passion, Claire finds herself at sea. Charlie has left an unfinished manuscript about a movie star named Jack Huxley, and his agent wants Claire to complete it. Her predictably gay friend, Ethan, sends her to a psychic, who warns her she will not find love for a year.
She meets and flirts with Jack at the opening of one of his films but gets drunk and ends up sleeping with the co-star think Bradley Cooper instead of George Clooney, poor girl. Eventually, she and narcissist Jack do connect and begin an affair of sorts; it is magic when they are together, but they are together only when he calls, which is not often. Will she grow out of Jack and into someone better?
The talented Bennett fuels her fiction with secrets—first in her lauded debut, The Mothers , and now in the assured and magnetic story of the Vignes sisters, light-skinned women parked on opposite sides of the color line. The novel opens 14 years later as Desiree, fleeing a violent marriage in D. Marrying a dark man and dragging his blueblack child all over town was one step too far.
Stella, ensconced in white society, is shedding her fur coat. Jude, so black that strangers routinely stare, is unrecognizable to her aunt. All this is expertly paced, unfurling before the book is half finished; a reader can guess what is coming. Bennett is deeply engaged in the unknowability of other people and the scourge of colorism.
